Pleonasm | DO HO SUH

P•leonasm: the use of more words than are necessary to express an idea; redundancy.

Whatever installation Do Ho Suh [ 1962 Seoul, Korea ] creates it always seems to me as if a delicate drawing becomes alive. A strong concept expressed without using any violence or aggressiveness, a powerful idea hiding behind soft materials and pastel colours.

By using elements repeatedly in its simplicity he shows us metaphorical sculptures that represent different aspects of the human condition such as identity, individuality, collectivity and anonymity.

The artist has represented Korea at the 2010 Venice Biennial as well as showed many solo exhibitions, the most notable of which are the ones at Storefront for Art and Architecture (2010) or the Serpentine Gallery in London (2002) among others.
