Plan | ED FAIRBURN

P•lan: a representation of a thing drawn on a plane, as a map or diagram.

“There’s something romantic about maps. It’s quite hard to place the excitement that they inspire, but it is somewhere between the markers of memories made, the possibility of the unknown and the prospect of adventure”, words that Ed Fairburn [ Southampton, UK, 1989 ] uses to describe his fascination for cartography.

He works more like a sculptor than an ordinary illustrator. Using the chaotic patchwork of roads, trains and rivers printed on maps as his own particular raw material to create these large-scale portraits by simply applying ink or pencil.
