Arts and Craftsmanship become the same thing in the work of Willy Verginer [ Bressanone (Italy), 1957]. His work is being highly influenced by his own roots, the landscape and the beauty of materials. Always trying to find the most suitable type of wood for each work showing the relationship between nature and philosophy.

I can’t help but relate his art with Robert Rauschenberg’s first “combine” works as Monogram (1950), where we have this stuffed goat passing through an automobile tire displayed over a wooden platform. Verginer believes there are not such a thing as contemporary materials as at the end it will depend on how they are used and they will always be subordinated to the idea and the work.

It is an absolutly plesure to see how he applies the resin over the wood, starting from the face and dripping down to the body. There are some videos in youtube where you can find his work in process for his exhibition in La Biennale di Venezia 2009; Doctor Frankenstein at his best.

Arte y Artesanía se vuelven uno en la obra de Willy Verginer [ Bressanone (Italia), 1957]. Su trabajo se ve muy influenciado por sus propias raíces, el paisaje y la belleza de los materiales. Centrándose en la relación entre naturaleza y filosofía, trata siempre de encontrar el tipo de madera más adecuando para cada obra.

Es inevitable relacionar su línea de trabajo con el artista americano Robert Rauschenberg y sus primeras “combine” allá por los años 50. En Monograma por ejemplo, vemos a una cabra embutida en un neumático de automóvil y expuesta sobre una plataforma de madera. Verginer opina que no hay materiales más o menos contemporáneos, sino que la contemporaneidad de los mismos radica en cómo se usen, estando siempre subordinados a la idea en última instancia.

Es realmente un placer ver como aplica la resina sobre la madera, empezando por la cara y goteandola hacia el resto del cuerpo. Hay varios videos en Youtube y Vimeo donde podéis echar un vistazo a su proceso de trabajo para la Bienal de Venecia; el viejo Doctor Frankenstein en su mejor momento.
